Team Standards

Code Of Conduct

What we expect from swimmers, parents, and our coaches. These are the agreements that keep our team a place where everyone wants to be.

The FAST Fins are a team and a community. The standards below apply to every swimmer, parent, and coach on the team, at every practice and every meet, all summer long.

If everyone shows up to this, we have a great season.

For Swimmers

Practice. Meets. Pool deck.
  • Show up on time for practices and meets, ready to work and ready to listen.
  • Respect your coaches. When they speak, you listen. Always.
  • Cheer for your teammates. Every Fin matters. Every race counts.
  • No bullying, teasing, or exclusion. Ever. The pool deck is for everyone.
  • Take care of the pool and team gear. Pick up after yourself in the team area.
  • Bring a positive attitude even on hard practice days. Your energy lifts the whole team.
  • Try your best in every race, regardless of who you are racing against.
  • Be a good sport. Win with humility. Lose with grace. Shake hands or high-five your competition.
  • No phones or electronics on deck during practice or meets.
  • If you have a problem, talk to your coach. They can help.

For Parents & Spectators

Family, friends, fans of FAST
  • Cheer for every swimmer, not just your own. Loud and positive.
  • Leave the coaching to the coaches. If you have technique feedback, hand it to Coach Jenn, not your swimmer mid-race.
  • Respect officials, timers, and volunteers. They are donating their time so the meet runs.
  • No filming or video behind the blocks at any time, per SafeSport rules. This applies to phones, cameras, and all recording devices.
  • Volunteer at every meet your swimmer races in. Every family pulls weight on meet days.
  • Concerns? Take them to the board or coach directly, not the parent group chat or social media.
  • Be a model of sportsmanship. Your kid is watching how you react to wins, losses, and hard moments.
  • Keep the pool deck and team area clean. Leave it better than you found it.
  • No alcohol or smoking at practices, meets, or team events.
  • Remember it's summer rec swim. The goal is fun, growth, and community. Keep perspective.

For Coaches

What our families can expect from us
  • Provide a safe, positive learning environment for swimmers of every skill level.
  • Treat every swimmer with respect regardless of ability, age, or experience.
  • Communicate clearly with parents about practice, meets, and swimmer development.
  • Follow all SafeSport guidelines in every interaction with swimmers.
  • Model good sportsmanship in how we coach, react to officials, and engage with other teams.
  • Make practices challenging and fun. Every kid should leave the pool tired and smiling.
  • Be available for swimmer and parent questions before, during, and after practice.
  • Celebrate every win, from a personal best to a first 25 swam without help.
When Standards Aren't Met

Consequences

Violations of this Code of Conduct will be addressed by the FAST Board and head coach on a case-by-case basis. Depending on severity, consequences may include a verbal warning, a meeting with the swimmer or family, suspension from a practice or meet, or in serious cases, removal from the team.

Anyone violating SafeSport guidelines will be reported per USA Swimming and SafeSport policy.
